Final Destination 5

Starring: Nicholas D'Agosto, Emma Bell, Miles Fisher
Directed by: Steven Quale
Rating: Didn't Like It

The Good:

  • I'm very limited on what to say here.  I liked that Fisher - in appearance only - reminded me of a young Tom Cruise.
  • The cameo of Tony Todd was nice.
  • I did like how they tied all the films together...even if it was a stretch.
  • There was one very suspenseful death involving the gymnast.  It may have just been that jabbing something in someone's foot really freaks me out.
  • And...
The Bad:
  • It's a rehash of a rehash of a rehash.  The story has been done in every creative way that it can be, apparently.  There are no new ideas for this franchise.  Let it go!
  • The acting wasn't awful, but it wasn't good at all.
  • There was very little suspense for the deaths with the exception of the one mentioned above.
The Ugly:
  • This movie was trying to make fun of itself and still remain true to itself as well.  It didn't work.  It was almost like watching one of the "movie" movies trying to be an actual movie.
  • Casting David Koechner for this movie...no, no, no.  This is just another example of a personality struggle: horror or comedy.
  • This movie is supposed to be all about the death scenes.  It's about people dying!  These were some of the worst death scenes I've ever seen.  One of the best death scenes I've ever seen was from this series, though.  The falling window that smashes the kid on the sidewalk was great; however, if you're going to try and outdo those earlier movies, you're going to have to try harder.
I wouldn't even bother with this one on DVD.
